Fanie Fourie's Lobola is a film that will be released tomorrow, April 22, on iTunes and VOD. This film is a 108 Media film that combines comedy and a love story in one. I reviewed this film today and even though some of the words had to be written on the screen because it is a foreign film, I did enjoy it.
This film takes place in South - Africa where Fanie Fourie is a single white man that has trouble getting a girlfriend. One day Fanie's brother dares Fanie to ask out Dinky, a beautiful black girl. Fanie does ask her out to his brother's wedding and she agrees if only Fanie will come to her home and meet her family. These two find out that they have many of the same likes and dislikes and they begin to see more of one another.
There is one problem with Dinky and Fanie seeing each other - another man wants Dinky for himself and he will do anything to stop her from dating Fanie.
There is also an issue of the Labola with which Fanie must have to win Dinky over from her father. Fanie borrows to get enough money to pay the Lobola but because of the cultural/racial problems, and the ex boyfriend, Fanie thinks he doesn't have a chance with Dinky. This complicated romance will keep you watching until the final end.
I did like the storyline of this film even though I had to read some of the lines on the screen, it does have a great ending and it is worth watching. Both Dinky and Fanie are played by great actors and the movie is produced very well. I believe it is worth watching but, I wouldn't recommend it for children to watch because of some language and adult actions.
