I received the Caterpillar's Math House Games the other day and was very excited to get to review this cute card game with my grandson Brice. Brice is nearly 8 years old and does really good in school , except for math. This really cool math game from Carlito Caterpillar and Domenico Marcario, M.S is superb! Mr. Marcario is a retired high school math teacher and a very loving grandfather. He believes that games and play are the learning media for young children. Early childhood development professionals note that young children are most open to learning when they play.
Math House Games has created activities and games for parents to play with their children. The material is presented in 3stages, with a total of 20steps and 2 games in each step covering quantity, numeration, and operations.
The set contains:
•30 double-sided, full color, illustrated Game Cards
•Related editorial information explaining to parents The What, Why and How of Each Step
•Each 8" x 4" loose leaf card is printed on heavy card stock, lacquered to help protect from spills and ring bound to keep together and facilitate play
Brice loved this set of games. We did several games in one night and one really particular game at the first of the program, actually helped him understand easy subtraction. We placed cereal on numbered cards 1-4 and I would write out a math problem such as, 3-2 and Brice would remove 2 pieces of cereal from the numbered 3 column and find he only had 1 piece of cereal left, hence answer of course was 1. Great game!
Carlito the Caterpillar's Math House Games are great for homeschooling as well as working with your public school child on extra areas they need help in. They even have a website for you to download certificates as the child passes each step. There is also applications to download for you as the teacher. Plus, coming soon, iPad user use.
I would greatly recommend this wonderfully fun teaching aid for any child who loves math or needs help as we do. It is a awesome binded book filled with fun games that do teach math the easy way.
