Closed !AHCC - Vitamins for your Immune System
Review/Giveaway Closed!
Flu season is already upon us and take it from me, (I've already had a small case of it), it is horrible! The good people at RLA are kindly letting me review a new vitamin out on the market, AHCC.
AHCC -which stands for active hexose correlated compound is extracted from Japanese medicinal mushrooms. It enhances the power of the seasonal flu shot, making the shot more effective against the potentially deadly flu virus. AHCC has just been approved by the FDA for the 2010-2011 influenza season. Boosting the power of the seasonal flu shot has long been on the minds of both clinicians and researchers. Studies have shown that healthy people receiving AHCC supplementation, even for a short period, experienced a stronger immune response to the seasonal flu shot than those who were not supplemented.
AHCC has been used successfully to treat a wide range of health conditions, from minor ailments such as colds and flu, to serious diseases such as cancer, hepatitis, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease
In the clinical study, patients taking AHCC showed increased production of "T-cells" and natural killer (NK) cells, two types of white blood cells whose role in the immune system is to destroy virus-infected cells and fight off infections. AHCC is unlike other medicinal mushroom extracts, it is rich in alpha-glucans, rather than beta-glucans. AHCC has also been shown to be extremely safe with no significant adverse effects noted after 20 years of clinical use.
*Who discovered AHCC®?
Dr. Toshihiko Okamoto from the University of Tokyo developed AHCC® in collaboration with researchers from the Amino Up Chemical Co., Ltd. in 1989. AHCC® is rooted in the Japanese tradition of preserving and using the Shitake, Maitake and other precious mushrooms to maintain health and longevity.
*Can AHCC® be used with other medications?
Yes. Research conducted in Japan has established that AHCC® can be used in conjunction with prescription drugs
*Is this product suitable for vegetarians?
Yes, AHCC® is a completely vegetarian product. It is encapsulated in V-Caps® made from plant cellulose.
* How to use:
The recommended dosage is one gram per day for immune system maintenance and three grams per day when fighting an infection or battling another health condition. AHCC should be taken twice daily on an empty stomach for the best absorption. However, AHCC is well absorbed even when taken with a meal.
*Where can you buy AHCC?
AHCC is available at most independent health food stores, Vitamin Shoppe and select Whole Food stores, as well as online.
*Awards
The first nutritional supplement containing AHCC-Kinoko Gold AHCC-received the first 2002 NutrAward for "Best New Evidence Based Product" at Nutracon.
*How can one dietary ingredient be effective against so many types of health problems?
The answer is that many acute and chronic conditions share a hidden cause: compromised immunity. And as a biological response modifier, AHCC turns the dial up on your natural immune response, helping you fight all kinds of threats to your health.
**Side Effects of Chemotherapy**
Chemotherapy is fraught with side effects, which range from psychologically distressing to life-threatening. In addition to being able to fight cancer directly, AHCC also alleviates many of the side effects of chemotherapy, including:
•Hair Loss: Doctors noticed that chemotherapy patients taking AHCC did not lose their hair. Subsequently, an in vivo study found that mice treated with AHCC were protected from chemically induced hair loss.
•Nausea: Clinical studies in Korea and Japan have indicated that AHCC remarkably improves symptoms of nausea and vomiting in cancer patients.
•Bone Marrow Suppression: Chemotherapy can inhibit bone marrow function, which is life-threatening because the bodys key immune soldiers the white blood cells originate in bone marrow. AHCC has been shown to raise the white blood cell count of cancer patients by about 30%.
•Liver Damage: One of the major drawbacks of chemotherapy is that it kills healthy cells in addition to cancer cells. An in vivo study found that while rats given chemotherapy experienced large increases in liver enzymes (indicative of liver damage), those given chemotherapy plus AHCC had normal levels
