Five Star Publications- Gunfight At The OK Corral - review/giveaway Closed!

review/giveaway  Closed!
Five Star Publications has put together a great summer reading program for you and your young reader to enjoy. Celebrating a landmark 25th anniversary, Five Star Publication has earned its place among America's top independently-operated publishing houses and book marketing firms. Publisher Linda F. Radke, owner of Five Star Publications, has been ahead of her game -self-publishing before it was commonplace, partnership publishing before the rest of the world even knew what it was, and producing award-winning traditionally and nontraditionally published fiction and nonfiction manuscripts for adults and children.
This program is developed to help your child continue to keep their reading skills up and they also get to enjoy some awesome books. Visit their bookshelf and find a book, or books, your young reader will enjoy and let the excitement begin!
Researchers conclude that two-thirds of the 9th grade reading achievement gap can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities during the elementary school years, with nearly one-third of the gap present when children begin school.  Knowing this, we must teach our children that reading is fun and that they need to stay active in some kind of reading program when not in school.
I was allowed to choose from 7 wonderful sounding books to read along with my grandson.  He is only 7 and still not a perfect reader so we read this book together.  We chose Gunfight At The OK Corral together.  I have to admit, I really enjoyed this book!  Gunfight At The OK Corral is a great book about the Old West and some of the gunfighters who walked the streets of Tombstone.

Gunfight At The OK Corral is about 2 children, Jenny and Luke, and their vacation stop in the town of Tombstone, Arizona.  Jenny and Luke's dad is fighting the war in Iraq and won't be able to take the kids to Disneyland so plans for vacation have changed and their mother is taking them to see their grandparents in Dallas,Texas.  On the way their mom decides it would be nice for the children to see a real western town.  So mom, Jenny and Luke visit the town of Tombstone.  The kids are not to excited about something as dull as cowboys and saloons but they give in and start looking around.  Mom decides to shop a little and the children make friends with  a nice old gentleman named Swamper, really he is the ghost of Swamper.  Swamper takes the kids back to  1880 when the Earp's were in Tombstone.  They meet the Earp brothers, see Doc Holiday and learn about his disease, Tuberculosis, and they find out the true reason for the gunfight that takes place at the OK Corral.  Many important questions are answered through this time visit to yesteryear.  Jenny and Luke end up knowing all about this famous town and what took place there.  The trip became a great adventure and one these children couldn't wait to tell their dad about.

Gunfight At The OK Corral is a Historical Fiction book and sells for $15.95. This book received Honorable Mention at the 2007 Hollywood Book Festival.

Help keep your child reading through their summer vacation by presenting books of their interest to them.  Join in and make reading fun by reading with them.  Ask questions at the end to make sure they understood what they read.  Reading is not only knowlegable but a great way to spend time with your child.
