I'm Happy for You (Sort Of...Not Really): Finding Contentment in a Culture of Comparison Book Review/Giveaway

"I'm Happy For You (Sort of ...Not Really) is an amazing book by Kay Wills Wyma.  Kay writes about how to cope in a world full of comparison and longings to look like, be like, or have what our neighbors have.
I found myself in many of the examples that Kay and her life have.  I know when a friend of ours built their new home, I was happy for them, but so angry it wasn't my home.  The same thing happens when the boys are in school.  I find myself making sure the boys wear exactly what all the other kids are wearing , even though mine had rather have the off brand shoes with those silly lights on the sides, I insist they get the one's all the popular kids are wearing and at quite a lot more money.

Fitting in and keeping up has become the sin of so many of us today, I am one of these guilty people.  Kay tells of how she pushed herself to make certain she had and did as her neighbors.  Some of these stories are funny and very amusing, but Kay does try to explain to the reader that we have all fall into a comparison delimia when actually all we need to do is quit wanting more and be happy for what we do have.
Kay even goes back to the days of Adam and Eve,  Eve with all the best of the very best, still she sought out for it all and more, which we all know the ending of that story - she lost everything by being so unappreciative of having the best.  Kay says we need to reboot our lives and be more appreciative of what we have.
Kay also brings out how social media plays a big part in this comparison living.  Pinterest  keeps us on on our toes. My kid wants the party decoration little Jimmy's mom found on Pinterest and made for him, resulting in Jimmy having the coolest party of the year which deflated my idea of just renting a bounce house quite quickly.
To sum up this book, we as people need to be thankful, not jealous and longing for what others have, because God has given us what we need and it is plenty.  Sometimes we need to learn that the best things in life are free.
I really liked this book and it pointed out things I have done and how I acted.  It also made me want to change and live as God intends us to live. Without jealously and  lusting to have what others have, we can enjoy the good in what we do have and reboot our lives back to what really matters.

I believe we all are like this book talks about, in some ways, and we can fix this through reading Gods plan for us and appreciating our lives as they are.
