There are certain movies that make my "top shelf" list and Ragamuffin definitely made this list. When I was asked to review this movie for my readers I didn't know what a wonderful movie I would be watching. This movie had me crying for many reasons, sometimes it was the sadness and other times it was because I knew God was there beside me, watching it to the end and the happiness I felt touched me deeply.
Ragamuffin is the true story of Rich Mullins. Rich was best known for his great hit, "Awesome God". The beginning of this movie takes place when Rich was a child and he lived with his family on a tree farm in Indiana. It seems like everything Rich does - he does wrong -or at least his father treats him that way. Rich naturally learns to play the piano and sing which doesn't please his father who wants him to be a farmer.
When Rich is old enough he moves off to college where he meets the love of his life, forms a gospel group Zion and makes great friends. These friends convince Rich that he needs to go to Nashville and make records. Rich's talent is unbelievable. In Nashville he writes and sings songs with Amy Grant. Through all the money he makes and the possessions he owns, Rich is still unhappy. Rich searches and questions God's use for him. The only happiness he seems to find is on a Navajo Reservation in Arizona.

"Awesome God" is a number 1 hit for Mullins, along with many other great top songs. During his career Rich becomes an alcoholic and becomes very depressed. This is when Rich meets a friend who tells him that he himself is a Ragamuffin, Rich is a Ragamuffin and all of us who love God, but sometimes fall short of being perfect, are Ragamuffins. It is finally when Rich loses his dad that life begins to make sense and he comes to realize his dad did love him and was proud of him.
I do not want to tell you how this movie ends, but I will tell you that it is very touching. I love this movie and I am so glad I was able to watch it. Ragamuffin is a must-see movie that will truly warm your heart. The music is fabulous and the talented actors who star in this movie are awesome!
