Having a child throw temper tantrums for a new toy, in a store is not anything a parent wants to see happen. I will tell you how I have stopped this from happening. One- my children are in church regularly and they have studied about children in other countries who have no toys at all and even children in our missions across the seas who are lucky to get a box of toys because the shipping is so costly. We have watched videos at our church and talked about how lucky we are here in America to have toys in most all stores and how easy it is to purchase them. Second-I have had my kids give something of their own to others on holidays so they can understand the reason for giving and why it is important to share with those less fortunate.
